The first-ever Alumni Gala was held at the Rolex Learning Center on 4 November 2016. Some 650 alumni and guests came together to support EPFL.
Professor Patrick Aebischer, president of EPFL until the end of 2016, and Professor Martin Vetterli, the new president as of 2017, both spoke at the official ceremony. They discussed the technological challenges of the future, the change in presidency and the development of EPFL. Several Alumni Awards recipients were in attendance. On behalf of all alumni, the recipients presented Mr Aebischer with a display representing the 18,275 students that graduated from the school during his sixteen years as president of EPFL.
The evening continued at the Rolex Learning Center with a buffet, concert and dancing. Guests also participated in several activities organised by our sponsors, such as testing the latest Tesla models and experiencing flight and car-racing simulators designed by Logitech. Alumni also had the chance to visit the brand-new ArtLab building, inaugurated the day before. ArtLab will host EPFL’s largest digital humanities projects, such as the Venice Time Machine, the Blue Brain Project and the digitisation of the Montreux Jazz Festival archives.
The Gala was a big success, and we look forward to many more. We will let you know as soon as the next Gala is scheduled!
