The EPFL Alumni Seed Night is an annual start-up presentation event bringing together the most promising entrepreneurs from EPFL and beyond, angel investors, mentors, industry leaders and scientists for an audience of 250+ people. The objective of the event is to showcase fast-growing entrepreneurial projects to the community and educate the audience about seed investment.

Comphya develops an active implantable medical device to restore the erectile function of patients who are non-responsive to oral drugs (e.g. Viagra or Cialis). To achieve erection, these patients have access to problematic and outdated methods such as intrapenile injections of vasodilators or penile implants. Comphya fills the need for better modalities for these patients, with a main focus on spinal cord injury and prostatectomy patients, both large segments with high potential of use.

Darix makes augmented reality applications for professionals. We are successfully supporting firefighters to see through smoke and better understand their environment, technicians to address difficult tasks on-site, and are using the powers of augmented reality to support professionals during their work.

Lymphedema is a frequent and serious complication of cancer therapies. It is a chronic and progressive disease, mostly outlined by the swelling of a limb due to improper function of the lymphatic system. After the disease has manifested, conservative treatments help avoid its worsening, but compelte reversal is burdensome. Dicronis helps to drastically improve its prognosis by providing the earliest lymphedema diagnostic, based on a micro-needles technology used to assess the lymphatic function in a simple, safe, minimally-invasive and cost-effective manner.

By allowing drones to be used safely in cities, inside buildings, and in contact with people, it enables new interactions and services with UAVs and solving the two most critical issues of one of the fastest growing industries: collisions and injury risks. The company’s first market is in industrial inspection where it avoids sending people in dangerous and confined spaces for the inspection of Energy, Heavy Industries, Oil & Gas and Maritime assets. It is also working with Search & Rescue and security professionals to assess emergency situations without putting humans at risk. Flyability is the winner of the 1M USD Drones for Good Award 2015 and over 10 other technology and business prizes.

Medical Templates developed the “Puncture Cube”, an ingeniously simple approach to computed tomography (CT) guided needle navigation in the body for biopsies and pain therapy. Targeted at interventional radiologists, the technology reduces radiation, intervention time and variance, while increasing patient comfort and safety. The solution has seen extremely positive user feedback. MedicalTemplates is now aiming towards FDA approval by the End of 2017 to enter the US market.

However, there is nothing yet with the same ease of use to build applications or software. Olympe empowers anyone to translate ideas into software solutions, from “brain to market”, in a few clicks. Combining visual thinking and artificial intelligence, users can build their own tailor made software easily and intuitively.

Oviva disrupts the traditional model by a proprietary technology to provide remote patient treatment via a smartphone app with an expert system support. ZuriMED commercializes a revolutionary device for surgical knee ligament reconstruction, the “Bone-Tendon-Bone (BTB) Conversion-Kit™”. The solution effectively converts a less painful hamstring autograft (a patient’s own tissue), or any other flexible graft, into a higher performance BTB-like graft.
